Who uses our road freight solutions

Our road freight services are built for shippers who move palletised cargo across Europe and need a balance between cost, speed and operational control.

E-commerce brands and retailers

Palletised or roll-cage flows from suppliers and cross-docks into hubs, fulfilment centres and last-mile partners across Central & Eastern Europe and the EU.

Distributors and wholesalers

Regional groupage and part loads to retailers, wholesalers and local warehouses with appointment deliveries and tail-lift where sites are not dock-equipped.

Manufacturers and industrial shippers

Regular LTL and FTL moves with clear loading patterns, time windows for loading/unloading and specific equipment needs (tautliners, mega trailers, box trucks).

Urgent B2B shipments that don’t fit parcel networks

Dedicated vans or direct trucks for time-sensitive loads where parcel/CEP is too small and air freight is overkill or not practical.

When does road freight actually make sense?

Road freight is the backbone of European logistics. It makes the most sense when your cargo is palletised, your lanes are within Europe, and you need predictable door-to-door transit times in days, not hours or weeks.

  • You move pallets or partial truckloads within Europe or to the UK.
  • Lead time expectations are 1–7 work days, depending on distance and service level.
  • You need door-to-door control – from specific loading slots to appointment deliveries at retail and DC locations.
  • Your cargo doesn’t justify air freight but is too time-sensitive, valuable or complex for ocean-only solutions.
  • You want flexibility in capacity – the ability to scale between groupage, LTL and FTL as volumes change.

When road freight is not the right tool, we’ll say it openly – for example when:

  • Air freight or time-critical solutions are the only way to meet a hard deadline.
  • Ocean or rail are better suited for very large, long-distance, non-urgent volumes.

How our road freight process works

The goal is simple: no surprises between you, us and the driver. Here is how we structure a typical road shipment:

  • Step 1 – RFQ & lane analysis
You send us your RFQ with lanes, pallet counts, dimensions, weights, loading/unloading requirements and time windows. We confirm any missing details and share a full quote within 2 business hours.
  • Step 2 – Service level & routing proposal
We propose the right combination of groupage, LTL, FTL or dedicated vans, with realistic transit times and clear information on cut-offs, pick-up days and delivery windows.
  • Step 3 – Booking & capacity confirmation
Once you confirm, we secure capacity in our carrier network, lock in pick-up dates/times and share booking references with your team and warehouse.
  • Step 4 – Pick-up & linehaul
We coordinate pick-up with your warehouse or supplier, including equipment type (tautliner, box, mega, van, tail-lift) and any special instructions. During the linehaul we monitor progress and react early if something changes.
  • Step 5 – Delivery, appointments & PODs
We manage appointment deliveries, site-specific rules, tail-lift needs and unloading constraints. Proofs of delivery (PODs) are collected and shared promptly with your operations and finance.
  • Step 6 – Review & optimisation for regular lanes
For recurring lanes we review performance and cost, adjusting service levels and partners where needed so you get a stable, predictable setup, not a one-off lucky shipment.

Road freight options you can actually choose from

There is no single “best” road service. We help you pick the right option per lane and shipment so you don’t overpay for speed you don’t need – or underbuy service for critical cargo.

Groupage / part loads

  • Shared trailers for smaller pallet quantities.
  • Regular departures on key European lanes.
  • Best when you have flexible delivery dates and want to optimise cost per pallet.

LTL – Less than truckload

  • Larger shipments that don’t fully fill a trailer.
  • More direct routings and often faster transits than groupage.
  • Good fit for regular B2B flows with predictable, mid-sized volumes.

FTL – Full truckload

  • You have full use of the trailer, from door to door.
  • Maximum control over loading/unloading times and handling.
  • Ideal for plant-to-plant moves, DC replenishments or high-value shipments.

Dedicated vans & direct drives

  • Sprinter vans and small trucks for urgent B2B shipments that need to go now.
  • Point-to-point, no terminal handling, minimal risk of cross-loading errors.
  • Often the sweet spot between parcel networks and air freight.

Same-day / next-day on selected corridors

  • Accelerated services on selected lanes in Central & Eastern Europe and between key hubs..
  • Clear cut-off times and guaranteed delivery windows.
  • Suitable for emergency stock moves, breakdown parts and critical orders.

Specialised equipment & extra services

  • Mega trailers, box trucks, double-deck trailers, temperature-controlled vehicles where available.
  • Tail-lift deliveries, side loading, ADR and other special requirements handled upon request.

Where we move your road freight shipments

We focus on European lanes where we can combine good coverage with the level of operational control our clients expect.

  • Central & Eastern Europe – Regular flows between countries like Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
  • CEE ↔ Western Europe – Strong corridors to and from Germany, Benelux, France, Italy, Spain and Austria.
  • Intra-EU regional distribution – Pallet flows between neighbouring markets for wholesalers, manufacturers and e-commerce hubs.
  • EU ↔ UK road freight – Cross-border lanes with customs formalities handled via trusted partners or directly where available.
  • Balkans & South-Eastern Europe – Road services connecting the Balkans with Central Europe and key ports.

Focused on the lanes that matter most to European shippers

If your lane is not listed here, share it with us – these are just examples, not the full list of routes we can support.

Why shippers choose KG Cargo for road freight

Our road customers don’t stay because of one lucky cheap load. They stay because their team feels in control of daily operations.

Quotes with real options, not just one rate

We don’t just throw a single number at you. For many lanes we can show you groupage vs LTL vs FTL vs vans, with clear trade-offs in cost and transit time.

Proactive communication when something changes

Traffic jams, weather, strikes, border delays – road shipments can be messy. Our job is to inform you early, not hours after a missed delivery window.

TCO mindset, not just per-load pricing

We look at your lanes, frequency and delivery requirements over time. Sometimes slightly faster services or different consolidation patterns reduce your total cost of ownership, even if the headline rate per pallet is higher.

Operational details handled properly

Tail-lift, booking slots, limited access, specific equipment, ADR or temp-controlled – we clarify these up front so the driver doesn’t arrive to a surprise.

Reliable PODs and clean documentation

Proofs of delivery, CMRs and other documents reach your team promptly, so invoicing, customer service and claims don’t lag behind operations.

One point of contact for multimodal flows

Many road legs are part of a wider chain (ocean imports, cross-dock networks, airfreight). We coordinate the whole picture so you don’t manage three different providers for one shipment.

What we need from you to quote properly

A clear road RFQ saves everyone time and emails – and gives you a quote that actually matches reality at loading and delivery.

  • Pick-up and delivery addresses – including postcodes and any site constraints (no dock, narrow streets, limited working hours).
  • Service type – groupage, LTL, FTL or dedicated van (if you’re not sure, tell us your volumes and we’ll suggest options).
  • Number of pallets / packages – plus whether they are stackable or non-stackable
  • Dimensions and weight – per pallet or total, including height.
  • Estimated loading meters (if available) – especially for LTL/FTL.
  • Cargo description and any special requirements – e.g. fragile, high value, ADR, temperature control.
  • Desired pick-up and delivery dates/time windows – including fixed appointments if needed.
  • Frequency – one-time shipment, weekly/regular flow, seasonal, project-based.

If some of this is not fully clear yet, share what you know – we can help you structure the rest.

Related services you might need

Road freight often sits in the middle of a wider transport chain. These services frequently go together with our road solutions:

Customs processing & compliance

Smooth import and export clearance for loads to UK, Norway, Switzerland and other European countries outside EU. HS classification support and help with duties and taxes.

Cargo insurance

Additional coverage for high-value cargo where carrier liability alone is not sufficient.

Time-critical solutions

For urgent shipments where traditional groupage or LTL is not fast or predictable enough.

Ocean freight & intermodal

When road is only part of a longer international move, we can integrate it with ocean or other modes.

Road freight FAQ

Groupage is shared trailer space for smaller shipments from multiple shippers. LTL is a larger shipment that doesn’t fill a full truck but usually moves more directly. FTL is when you use the whole truck from pick-up to delivery.

For groupage we usually need 1–2 working days’ notice; for LTL/FTL and dedicated vans we can often react faster, depending on the lane and time of day. Send us your request and we’ll confirm what is realistic.

It depends on the lane and service level, but as a guideline: 1–2 days for neighbouring countries, 2–4 days for mid-range lanes, and 4–7 days for longer cross-Europe routes. We always quote lane-specific estimates.

Yes. Tail-lift and appointment deliveries are common parts of our road operations. We just need to know this up front so we can assign suitable vehicles and book the right time slots.

We track shipments via our carrier network and regular check-ins. Status updates are shared proactively for regular flows, and PODs/CMRs are sent to your designated contact or system once available.

In many markets, yes. We need full details of the goods (including UN numbers for ADR) and temperature ranges where applicable. We will always confirm feasibility and applicable surcharges before accepting such shipments.
