Ocean freight that stays predictable, not just cheap
Move FCL, LCL and consolidated ocean shipments with clear transit times, transparent surcharges and proactive updates – so you can plan inventory, not chase vessels.
At KG Cargo, we treat ocean freight as a long-term supply chain tool, not just the lowest rate on a single lane. We help you choose the right mix of FCL, LCL and buyer’s consolidation, match it with reliable sailings and keep you informed whenever ETD/ETA changes – so your team always knows what to expect.
Who uses our ocean freight solutions
Ocean freight makes sense when you move steady volumes, can plan ahead and care about the total landed cost, not only the rate per container. Here are the types of shippers we work with most often:
E-commerce brands importing base stock from Asia
Regular FCL or LCL flows from China, Southeast Asia or Turkey into European fulfilment centres or 3PLs, with clear cut-offs and inventory visibility.
Distributors and wholesalers replenishing non-urgent stock
Palletised or cartonised cargo consolidated into containers to keep cost per kilo low across planned replenishment cycles.
Manufacturers moving regular FCL between plants and DCs
Stable weekly or monthly volumes between factories, regional hubs and distribution centres in Europe, the UK, North America or the Middle East.
Projects and oversized cargo with flexible lead times
Out-of-gauge or project cargo where lead time is important but not as critical as safe handling, proper routing and cost control.
When does ocean freight actually make sense?
Ocean freight is not for every shipment. It shines when you can plan ahead, when your cargo is non-urgent, and when the cost per kilo matters more than shaving off a few days in transit.
When ocean doesn’t make sense, we’ll say it:
- If you’re shipping very time-sensitive launch stock, consider air freight or time-critical road for at least part of the volume.
- If you’re only moving a few pallets within Europe and timing is tight, a groupage/road solution may give you better control.
How our ocean freight process works
We keep the process straightforward and transparent, so your team knows exactly what happens from RFQ to delivery.
Ocean freight options you can actually choose from
Ocean freight is not “one size fits all”. We help you choose from a range of options and combine them into a lane strategy that fits your volumes, lead times and budget.
FCL – Full container load
- 20’, 40’, 40’HC and special equipment (open top, flat rack) where needed.
- Best for stable, higher volumes with clear loading patterns.
- Simple cost structure and strong control over sealing, loading and unloading.
LCL – Less than container load
- Ideal for smaller lots, new lanes or test shipments.
- Shared containers with clearly defined cut-offs and transit times.
- Good way to build up volumes before switching to FCL
Buyer’s consolidation
- We consolidate multiple suppliers or origins into buyer-controlled containers.
- Fewer documents, lower handling cost per shipment and more predictable arrivals at your DC.
- Especially useful for e-commerce brands and multi-supplier manufacturers.
Port-to-port solutions
- You or your local partners handle pre-carriage and on-carriage.
- We focus on carrier selection, schedule reliability and cost optimisation between POL and POD.
Door-to-door ocean freight
- We manage the full chain: pick-up, port handling, ocean transport, customs and final delivery.
- One point of contact, one cost breakdown – easier to manage TCO.
Sea + rail / sea + road combinations
- Intermodal options via key hubs to balance cost and lead time.
- Sea + rail for deep inland destinations; sea + road for flexible last-mile delivery.
- Good fit for inland DCs and land-locked countries.
Where we move your ocean freight shipments
We focus on trade lanes where we can offer both competitive rates and the operational control you need – not just a theoretical routing on paper.
- Asia → Europe (imports) – From main ports in China, Southeast Asia, India and Turkey into North, Central and Southern Europe (including the UK).
- Europe → Asia (exports) – Machinery, consumer goods and industrial cargo from Central & Eastern Europe to Asia and the Middle East.
- Europe ↔ North America – Transatlantic services between major European ports and East Coast / Gulf ports in the US and Canada.
- Intra-Europe short sea – Short sea connections between North Europe, the Baltics, the Med and the Black Sea for cost-efficient regional flows.
- Europe ↔ Middle East & Mediterranean – Regular services to and from key hubs in the Eastern Med, Levant and GCC.
If your lane is not listed here, share it with us. In many cases we can build a reliable ocean solution on alternative routings using our wider carrier and partner network.
Why shippers choose KG Cargo for ocean freight
Shippers don’t stay with us because of one spot rate. They stay because they get clarity and control over their ocean flows.
Quotes with real options, not guesswork
For standard enquiries you get your quote within two business hours – with clear routings, estimated transit times and the main risks explained.
Proactive management of roll-overs and blank sailings
We monitor vessel status and carrier announcements. If a sailing is blanked or your container is rolled, you hear it from us early, together with options – not when your customer calls asking “Where is our container?”.
TCO mindset, not rate-chasing
We look at the total cost of moving your cargo – ocean rates, surcharges, port and terminal costs, customs regimes (e.g. Procedure 42, IOSS/OSS) and consolidation options. Often, the right mix of FCL/LCL and Incoterms saves more than a few dollars off the rate.
No-surprise billing
All known surcharges (THC, ISPS, BAF, documentation, etc.) are confirmed in writing before pick-up, with clear validity dates. No shocking extra lines on the invoice weeks later.
Documentation and customs support
We help your team minimise delays and customs fines by checking HS codes, commercial invoices and packing lists, and coordinating with customs brokers or providing customs clearance where we are licensed.
One control tower for multi-modal flows
Many ocean shipments don’t end at the port. We coordinate sea + road + rail legs so you treat the entire move as one flow, not as a series of disconnected bookings.
